Convention of States Hawaii team members Mark White, Rita Kama-Kimura, Aurora and Jake Wilson, and Brett Kulbis get ready for a day of petition signing.
The Convention of States Hawaii team set an outdoor display table record of 236 petition signatures collected during the weekend of July 20-21, 2019!
The event--held at Honolulu's Koko Head Shooting Range--was the Hawaii Rifle Association's annual Shooting Sports Fair, offering gun enthusiasts of all kinds an opportunity to shoot a wide variety of pistols, rifles, and shotguns.
Usually the event falls on on Father's Day weekend, so this year's fair started slowly with a noticeable drop in Saturday attendance. The next day more than made up the difference in participation with a continuous stream of excited local customers registering to shoot at the HRA fundraiser throughout the day Sunday.
Hawaii's Sunday crew of Mark White, Francie Whitfield, and Emil Svrcina prepares to collect a one-day outdoor display table record number of signatures.
Hawaii's team has had a display booth at this fair for the last four years. This year's event smashed previous signature collection efforts with 92 petitions signed on Saturday and walloping 144 on Sunday. This, in spite of the fact the team was one person short on both days.
How were so many petitions collected?
- We brought plenty of clipboards with hard copy petition forms.
- We used multi-petition signature forms to make it easy for large groups to sign simultaneously.
- We actively sought out fairgoers well out in front of the table.
- We positioned our table close to the event entry/registration area.
The previous record for this outdoor event was 219 signatures in 2018. The all-time highest number of petitions gained at a single weekend event in Hawaii was the indoor March 2018 Great Guns Show when 264 signatures were collected.
The signatures collected at this fair add another 5% growth to Hawaii's grassroots army.
