Small government aficionados rejoice!
Over the past two weeks, constitutionally-minded folks have had no shortage of riveting good news to digest as President-elect Donald Trump lays out his plan of action for waging war against the “Deep State.” He won’t be bringing seeds to grow the federal government but a blowtorch and an ax. His second term teases a bloody slasher film (metaphorically, of course) in which corrupt government agencies play the victims.
Naturally, reactions have been mixed. For those who couldn’t care less if the Deep State went up in flames, Christmas came early this year. But for those who have grown quite cozy with the status quo, Trump’s unconventional cabinet picks and threats to shrink the federal government have prompted a bout of hysteric hand-wringing and delirium.
Per the New York Times editorial board: “Donald Trump has demonstrated his lack of fitness for the presidency in countless ways, but one of the clearest is in the company he keeps, surrounding himself with fringe figures, conspiracy theorists and sycophants who put fealty to him above all else. This week, a series of cabinet nominations by Mr. Trump showed the potential dangers posed by his reliance on his inner circle in the starkest way possible.”
Let them have their pity parties. Most Americans will sooner be swayed by a president who gets the federal government off their backs than the Times’ woebegone weeping and gnashing of teeth.

And how exactly does Trump plan on doing it? He proposed ten steps in a recent video. For example:
1. “I will immediately reissue my 2020 executive order, restoring the president’s authority to remove rogue bureaucrats, and I will wield that power very aggressively.”
2. “We will clean out all of the corrupt actors in our national security and intelligence apparatus…. The departments and agencies that have been weaponized will be completely overhauled so that faceless bureaucrats will never again be able to target and persecute conservatives, Christians, or the Left’s political enemies.”
His final proposal closely aligned with one of Convention of States’ three subject areas. “I will push a constitutional amendment to impose term limits on members of Congress,” he vowed. “This is how I will shatter the Deep State and restore government that is controlled by the people and for the people.”
President Trump released his plan to DISMANTLE the Deep State. Now that he's President-elect, this is the most important three minutes of video on the internet right now.

Herein lies the mainspring of the white-collar Trump critics’ sudden extreme nervousness. Trump really does pose a threat — not to democracy, liberty, or the American way of life, as the media claim, but to the corrupt spirit of control that has hijacked Washington. Federal deception has become a lucrative endeavor: Trump’s threat to expose the whole rotten system hits a little too close to home. Sensing that their days ruling the American people may be coming to an end, the rogue bureaucrats and corrupt actors of whom Trump speaks have no choice but to fire back.

Convention of States supporters are used to these kinds of attacks. All we want to do is use the Constitution to save the Constitution (as the Founding Fathers intended), decimating the potential for federal tyranny and overreach. But the media accuse us of seeking to upend democracy. Sound familiar?
Returning to the pages of the New York Times, we were charged with working to “gut our Constitution.”
“There needs to be real concern and attention about what they [Convention of States] might do,” the newspaper continued. “We are putting out the alert.”
Are you beginning to notice a pattern?
Whenever the Deep State’s sidekicks and chums cry foul about some right-wing, Nazi threat to democracy and the Constitution, they betray where their true allegiance lies. (Hint: it’s not with the American people). A major political realignment is brewing, and the American media complex has positioned itself firmly on the side of the Deep State and against “We the People.” In the impending conflict, at least 76 million Americans are on Donald Trump’s side.
Trump’s support for term limits to “shatter the Deep State” is one of many recent developments signaling his forthcoming administration’s growing sympathy and, in many cases, open enthusiasm for the Convention of States mission to reign in the federal government. We will not be deterred from our commission from the American people: we must turn the page on the era of corrupt big government once and for all, regardless of what its puppets in the media call us.
