This is how the deep state in D.C. costs American lives.
As Convention of States endorser Ben Shapiro explained on his show yesterday, bureaucrats in D.C. kept local doctors from performing crucial coronivirus tests that could have tamped down the spread of the disease.
"I think this is the fault of a massive regulatory bureaucracy that prevents people from doing reasonable things," he said. "It turns out that the federal government, while it is well-placed to issue broad national guidelines, is not well-placed to deal with local testing that has to be done."
Coronavirus testing isn't the only thing best left to local citizens. The federal government has its fingers in every area of American life, and many of these issues would be better controlled by state and local governments.
That's what the Convention of States Project is all about: restoring our right to self-governance. A Convention of States has the power under Article V of the Constitution to propose constitutional amendments that limit Washington's jurisdiction and return to the American people their ability to make decisions for themselves and their families.
Four million Americans have voiced their support. Will you be next?
