Op Ed: A Convention of States would empower the states

Published in Blog on October 29, 2018 by Laurie Wheeler

The following was written by Coalition's Director Jean Neadrow and originally published in the Richmond Times-Dispatch

The Convention of States leadership will submit a Faithful Commissioners Resolution in January 2019 to the General Assembly.

This is the rules and regulations for the commissioners who will represent Virginia at the convention. They can only speak on the subject within the petition.

Also we will present a petition for a Convention of States in January.

Congress now has resolutions from 12 states.

In all, 34 petitions must be received by Congress to call the Convention. Another 15 states presented their petition to their legislatures in 2018.

Article V of the Constitution empowers the states to hold a Convention of States to propose amendments to limit federal power, spending, and regulations.

Amendments can also create better checks on judiciary so the courts apply the Constitution as written rather than the Constitution as interpreted by activist judges.

Our Founders made sure this process was safe by requiring 38 states to ratify any proposals coming out of the convention before they become part of the Constitution.
