Only 10% of the $1.2 Trillion "Infrastructure" Bill is Roads and Bridges. Here's What the Rest of YOUR Money Pays For.

Published in Blog on November 09, 2021 by Article V Patriot

With the help of 13 Republican House members and 19 Republican senators, Congress is sending a $1.2 trillion "infrastructure" bill to President Biden's desk.

It's undoubtedly a political win for the president and his party, but is it a win for the American people?

According to an excellent analysis by our friends over at the Daily Wire, no -- not at all.

Only about 10% of the bill will be used to fund "roads and bridges" ($110 billion). The bill spends another $42 billion for airports and seaports, and $55 billion on fixing water pipes.

That's the only part of the bill that is dedicated to traditional infrastructure. The rest? Well, see for yourself:

  • $500 million to destroy roads and highways constructed as part of America’s purported legacy of systemic racism.
  • A fund to punish people who drive their own cars. Provides money to encourage cities and municipalities to charge cars for traveling into city limits during peak hours, collect tolls from drivers, and hike the cost of parking in the city.
  • $39 billion on "public transportation" and another $66 billion on rail transit. These "investments," of course, will only (allegedly) benefit Americans living in major cities.
  • $7.5 billion for electric chargers for e-vehicles
  • $7.5 billion for zero- or low-emission public buses and ferries.
  • $65 billion to strengthen the U.S. energy grid.
  • Money for "tree justice": "[c]onducting an equity assessment by mapping tree canopy gaps, flood-prone locations, and urban heat island hot spots."
  • Permanent $30/month subsidy for low-income people to purchase internet access. (No requirement the internet be used for work or school.)

The Biden administration claims that all of this new spending will be "paid for." Of course, that's not true.

According to the Heritage Foundation, the bill will increase deficits every year and add an additional $2,900 per household to the national debt. Already, each American citizen owes about $87,000 in national debt.

Neither party is willing cut spending and get our nation's finances under control. Both Republicans and Democrats have abandoned fiscal responsibility, which is why the people and the states must step in and take charge.

We can do exactly that with an Article V Convention of States. A Convention of States is called and controlled by the states and has the power to propose constitutional amendments. These amendments can force Congress to balance the budget without raising taxes or increasing spending. This requirement will force Congress to cut the waste and pork that dominates every spending bill, and make decisions that are in the best interests of the American people.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
