Ohio Senate Committee will hear from engaged and eloquent COS Ohio team on March 11

Published in Blog on March 10, 2025 by Matt May

Legendary Ohio State University football coach Woody Hayes considered himself not only a coach, but a teacher whose role in educating "his boys" was as important as that of any professor on campus.

For years, he gathered his team's freshmen on Sunday mornings for a lecture about vocabulary words. In a memorable clip from one of those lectures that was included in a documentary about Hayes, the bespectacled teacher/coach warned his players against apathy on and off the field

"Avoid it like the plague," he intoned, "avoid it like the plague."

No such lecture about the dangers of political or civic apathy has ever been necessary for the engaged, prepared, and eloquent Convention of States Ohio squad, and you can bear witness on March 11.

The team will once again take the field during a hearing of the Ohio Senate General Government Committee in support of Senate Joint Resolution 3 -- the COS resolution to call a limited-purpose Article V convention.

Watch the action in real time on March 11 at 2:00 p.m. ET on COS LIVE:

Convention of States Action senior advisor and former U.S. senator Rick Santorum will be with the Ohio team in Columbus to offer testimony.

S.J.R. 3 is sponsored by Sen. Michelle Reynolds and Sen. George F. Lang, and co-sponsored by Sen. Bill Reineke

While no vote will be taken following the committee meeting due to its being exclusive to proponents of S.J.R. 3, the hearing is a significant step in the process of passing the COS resolution in the Ohio Legislature.

As COS Ohio has demonstrated in the past, the team is adept at offering masterful testimony.

Be sure to watch one of the most articulate and active COS teams in the land make the case for an Article V convention on March 11 at 2:00 p.m. ET

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
