New Video! Mark Meckler DECIMATES the "runaway convention" myth

Published in Blog on October 12, 2021 by Article V Patriot

You've heard this myth before.

If we call and convene the first-ever Article V Convention of States, the convention will "run away."

In this doomsday scenario, radical leftists take control of the convention, propose amendments stripping us of our rights, and then (somehow) force 38 states to ratify those amendments.

The idea is ridiculous after even a little consideration, but fear is a powerful motivator, so some Americans have fallen for the lie.

To answer those lies with the truth, Convention of States Action President Mark Meckler addressed the "runaway convention" myth on a recent episode of his show, The Battlecry.

So there you have it. The 1787 constitutional convention didn't "run away," and neither will a Convention of States. There are multiple, overlapping protections in place to ensure that only the best, most popular amendments are ratified.

State legislatures control which kinds of amendments their delegates consider, and 38 states must ratify any amendment proposals. The nation will be watching these proceedings, and legal precedent proves that only amendments that limit federal power, spending, and terms of office will be permitted to be considered.

It's time to stop allowing fear and misinformation to dictate our decisions. We must step out in courage, trust the Founders, and use the tool they gave us to rein in an overreaching federal government.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
