New stimulus bill demonstrates need for a Convention of States

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to rattle the nation, the U.S. Senate recently passed an economic "stimulus" to the tune of $2 trillion.

The alleged goal of the bill is to increase cash flow to unemployed Americans, hospitals, and American companies suffering as a result of the outbreak.

However, upon further review, this bloated bill does a lot more than what's being advertised.

Rather than just pass a clean bill dealing with the core issue at hand, the swamp just couldn't help itself in adding in agenda items that have absolutely nothing to do with the current pandemic.

Here's a list of the some of the many poison pills inserted into this pork bill:

  • Corporation for Public Broadcasting (PBS + NPR): $75 million
  • National Endowment for the Arts: $75 million
  • The Kennedy Center: $25 million
  • National Endowment for the Humanities: $75 million
  • Internal Revenue Service (IRS): $250 million
  • Institute of Museum and Library Services: $50 million
  • House of Representatives salaries and expenses: $25 million
  • Refugee & Migration Assistance: $350 million

The idea that Congress would even consider these initiatives--like giving themselves a raise during this pandemic as millions of Americans struggle to stay afloat--is one of the many reasons everyday citizens distrust Washington to do the right thing.

Even during a crisis, leave it to the feckless swamp rats of Washington to screw over the American taxpayer and pass over-bloated, pork bills.

Irresponsible moves like these prove why we need a Convention of States.

By calling an Article V convention, we can finally pass amendments to the Constitution that will limit federal overreach, impose fiscal restraints on Congress, and impose terms limits on federal officials.

It's time to put the politicians in Washington in check, and that starts with a Convention of States. Please consider signing our petition below!

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention for proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington, DC.

I support the Convention of States Project; a national effort to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of Article V Convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support the Convention of States Project and consider becoming a co-sponsor of the resolution. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
