Mainstream Media as Co-Conspirators

Published in Blog on November 29, 2020 by Arthur G. Ogden, Ph.D., Ed.D. Alabama District Captain

Every successful conspiracy thrives because of its complete lack of transparency. It functions in shadows, it prospers in deception, it revels in in duplicity, and it cannot stand in the light of truth.

The Cambridge English Dictionary defines conspiracy as,

a secret agreement made between two or more people or groups to do something bad, destructive, or illegal that will harm someone or some entity.

The great weapon of conspiracy is language. Language is compromised, then molded to the most esoteric of meanings and ultimately betrays its utility to disintegrate into the propaganda of the conspiracy. Language is the silage a conspiracy manipulates to engrain its agenda as legitimate and viable.

In the past four and one-half decades, there has been a serious uptick in incidents of media and the social networks in a preemptive step to create a “conformed” audience.

This is an application of the theory of media effects in journalism and communication known as cultivation theory. It proposes that repeated exposure to media over time influences perceptions of social reality.

George Gerbner originated cultivation theory in the 1960s. It is most frequently applied to television viewing and suggests that frequent television viewers’ perceptions of the real world become reflective of the most common messages advanced by fictional television.

An understanding of this theory easily transports to understanding the processes the mainstream media and social media have deployed when it has come to influencing the recent presidential elections.

There is little argument that they have ignored, minimized, degraded, and dismissed any information which was beneficial to conservative movements, arguments, or candidates. Additionally, the social media has censored personal accounts espousing opposing views to media moguls.

The resultant effect is a constant onslaught of the positions held by the conspiracy, accompanied by an obvious absence of anything which contradicts it.

The consequences are obvious, as there has emerged a single view offered by the media outlets. As consistent applications of the cultivation theory are increased, the viewers see these messages as the only viable and practical views.

The manipulation of the images and ideas of differing views have been reduced to no exposure at all, and the agenda of the conspiracy forges on without any impediments. The populace has not been exposed to opposing views and has absorbed only what the media has presented.

It is that simple and that tragic. A real question crystalizes: to what extent should the media be held accountable?

We are told by justipedia.com that, “A co-conspirator is a person or group of persons who act in conjunction with another person to defraud another party through the use of either legal or illegal means.”

Herein lies the heart of the problem. The influence and the skullduggery exercised by the media is so pervasive, it seems an overwhelming task to call them out for it.

We know that there are classifications of culpability in conspiracies, as “conspirators” or “co-conspirators.” Yet in the execution of the conspiracy, all parties who have contributed share that culpability.  While it may seem a wide application of the notion of “conspiracy,” it does not take a Sherlock Holmes to see the connections between the media and the promotion of leftist views.

In this sense the media are indeed co-conspirators. Still, the degree of culpability we must ascribe to them or to it must be direct, definitive, and comprehensive.

Once it is realized that this media cabal are the gatekeepers for the ruling elite which is eroding the fabric of America, change may begin.

Fortunately an Article V Convention of States can bypass the media elites to restore liberty in America. By volunteering as a Media Liaison, Social Media Warrior, or other comms-related role, you can get the truth out and play an important role in a historic movement.
