Loudon County parents take a stand against Marxism in the classroom

Published in Blog on June 02, 2021 by Shawn Fleetwood

One of the most glaring issues we face today as a country is the pervasiveness of progressivism throughout our education system.

For decades, educational institutions across the country have indoctrinated our children with their Marxist ideology, seeking to degrade and erode the American experiment as we know it.

Over the years, Marxism has slowly evolved, embedding itself into new programs or lessons taught to America's youth. One of the newest forms the ideology has taken comes in the form of critical race theory (CRT).

According to the Washington Examiner, "CRT is an ideology based in Marxism that views every individual, every institution, and every policy through the lens of racism. The ideology demands that past inequities against one group be righted by present inequities against the other. It categorizes every individual into a bin of either being 'oppressed' or being the 'oppressor.'"

Most recently in Virginia, the Loudon County school board decided to implement CRT-like training in its school system. According to the Washington Free Beacon, the board has spent nearly half a million dollars on the program.

But rather than sit back and be complacent, the parents of Loudon County decided to take action. In a move that has received national attention, Loudon County parents have launched a petition to recall members of the school board for their role in pushing CRT in Loudon classrooms.

"We had three dozen volunteers on Saturday, gained 1,500 signatures in one six-hour period," said parent Elizabeth Perrin. "There are people out there who want to see these people recalled, they are tired of having this agenda placed on our children and they can’t continue to politicize our children. These are our kids and this is their education and we need to keep being able to teach them ethics, morals, and values that are shared at home, not in the schools."

The grassroots activism displayed by Perrin and the parents of Loudon County is something that should not only be championed, but replicated. If every concerned citizen showed up to their local school board in droves or volunteered with grassroot organizations like Convention of States, Marxism wouldn't stand a chance.

Living in a civil society requires an active citizenry. For too long, many Americans have sat on the sidelines while the progressives have slowly but steadily ransacked our institutions.

No more.

Going forward, the parents of Loudon County should serve as an example to all of us in how we take back our country.

Whether its at the school board meetings, in a state legislature calling for a COS, or any other form of activism, saving the American experiment for our children and grandchildren will require all of us to stand resolute in our fight for continued freedom and liberty for all.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
