Legislative Liaison Strikes Gold in Arizona

Published in Blog on October 28, 2019 by Michael Jason Alexander

It seems that Steven McEwen may have struck gold in the Copper State…grassroots gold, that is!

McEwen, Steven Tucson Forum

In a recent phone call with Steven, who serves as Convention of States Arizona’s Legislative Liaison, he reported that he had made three Convention of States educational presentations in as many weeks at different venues around the state.

This series of events was one of the most unique and productive that he had experienced since moving into his state leadership position a little more than a year and a half ago.

What made these particular presentations so exceptional was that they occurred as the result of what one might describe as a “domino effect,” each event leading to another, with at least one member of the group coming up and extending an invitation to Steven, asking him to appear as a guest speaker at another different group to which they also belonged.

This is the magic of real, live social networking!

After having given his presentation at the following meeting, the same phenomenon occurred. One of the attendees at that particular function just happened to be the president of the Tucson Conservative Forum.

Struck by Steven’s comprehensive knowledge of Article V and his articulate dissertation on the Convention of States movement, he asked Steven if he would give his presentation at a TCF meeting the following week.

Steven graciously accepted that invitation and is seen in this short clip reading Arizona’s Convention of States resolution to the crowd.

After the reading, signatures were secured on a stack of petitions, a list of prospective volunteers was recorded, and the president of the Forum applied to be a District Captain!

As if that wasn't enough, one of the earlier meetings also recruited a new District Captain, someone who lived right there in his home legislative district.

It just doesn’t get much better than that. In addition to having added to the ranks of our army of informed and engaged grassroots activists, Steven came away with a strongly reinforced appreciation for networking and the need to share this very encouraging life-lesson.

We’ve all had those days when we know that we should be doing something, but we just don’t know what. The lesson here seems to be to just put ourselves out there, and that “something” just might find us!
