Several media outlets are reporting that President-elect Donald Trump is contemplating withdrawing the nomination of longtime Convention of States friend and endorser Pete Hegseth to become secretary of defense.
It is also speculated that Florida governor Ron DeSantis -- also a COS endorser -- is Trump's primary choice to replace Hegseth.
This appears to be news to Hegseth, as he has stated publicly that he spoke with Trump and was encouraged to "keep going, keep fighting."

According to the reports, a small group of Republicans in the Senate have expressed concerns about Hegseth's nomination due to allegations of sexual and financial misconduct -- allegations that have thus far been unfounded.
As Convention of States Action president and co-founder Mark Meckler wrote in a post on X, this is no time for a cabal of squeamish senators to abandon Hegseth, and doing so will have consequences:
I’ve known @PeteHegseth personally for a long time. He’s EXACTLY the man we need for SecDef right now. Ignore the noise and confirm him. Any R Senators considering otherwise…the grassroots are watching you. pic.twitter.com/AJcgBWo4jG

It is perhaps unnecessary to list the many United States senators who will be voting on Trump's appointments who have recently confirmed truly deviant men and women who have left our border open to invasion, booted federal employees and service members who exercised medical freedom, and weaponized the legal system in such a manner as to make the Department of Justice a punchline.
That is to say nothing of those in the Pentagon who preen with chests full of ribbons but prosecute war in such a manner that left the Taliban with control of more territory in Afghanistan than it had on September 11, 2001. This at the cost of billions in treasure and, more importantly, American lives and families that have been destroyed and shattered.
Hegseth aims to truly reform a Pentagon in dire need of it and he should have that opportunity. The American electorate gave President-elect Trump a clear mandate on November 5. He has selected Hegseth to begin the difficult work of making the Department of Defense competent again.

Pete Hegesth is a unique and talented individual, an original thinker who realizes that this republic's way of waging war does not work and has not worked in a long time.
He has seen war. He has seen how the leadership of the Pentagon has failed the rank and file and the American public. He wants to right this wrong.
Members of the Senate, permit him the chance to do so. Our eyes are on you.
