FLASHBACK: Sen. Sanders says Americans would be "delighted" to pay more taxes for universal healthcare

Published in Blog on February 26, 2020 by Article V Patriot

Remember this line from last summer?

Senator Bernie Sanders has never been shy about voicing his desire to make the United States more like the so-called "socialist" Scandinavian countries he seems so partial to. And he thinks the American people would be more than happy to make the sacrifices necessary to accomplish that dream.

In an interview with Anderson Cooper, Sanders argued that the United States should have, among other things, universal government-run healthcare and free college. When Cooper noted that these policies would raise taxes, Sanders responded, "I suspect a lot of people in the country would be delighted to pay more in taxes if they had comprehensive health care as a human right."

In reality, "a lot of people in the country" probably don't agree. Liberty-loving Americans would rather keep their money and spend it on the healthcare they actually need -- rather than letting the government impose one-size-fits all programs that waste taxpayer money on top of providing lower levels of care.

Unfortunately, Sanders isn't alone in his proposals. He has allies throughout Congress, and they're dead set on gaining control of the healthcare industry.

What they don't know is that there's a movement gaining momentum in all 50 states that would totally preclude the federal takeover of healthcare -- or any large segment of American life.

It's called the Convention of States Project, and millions of Americans have voiced their support.

A Convention of States can propose constitutional amendments that limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government. "Limited jurisdiction" simply means that the feds will be limited on the kinds of topics they can control. Healthcare definitely won't be one of them. These and similar issues would be left to the states and local communities, while the feds would only be allowed to control the things the Constitution mentions.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
