Florida Congressional candidate Dave Cummings endorses Convention of States to hold government accountable

Published in Blog on June 26, 2018 by Keith Bessette

“The beautiful thing about the Convention of States is that it affords the people the opportunity to take their government back, to have accountability in government, and also to restrain the power of an out-of-control federal government.”

Dave Cummings, a candidate for Congress in Florida's 18th District, has endorsed Convention of States.

Dave is a special forces veteran, former LEO, and now a business owner. He is a lifetime resident of South Florida’s Treasure Coast area.

I encountered Dave at a Martin County Florida Fairgrounds gun show and again at a St. Lucie County school board event.

Dave had previously signed the petition calling for an Article V Convention of States. Once two-thirds of the states are aboard, a Convention of States will meet to propose amendments on term limits, as well as restraints on overreaching authority and fiscal matters.

Cummings said a Convention of States can “make sure we are not bankrupting our country.”

"I am a very firm believer ... in term limits," he said. "I am also a firm believer in Congressmen and Senators having to live under the same laws they pass. There should be no exceptions.”

In 1787 our forward-thinking founders provided a way for us to amend the Constitution without involving Washington. History has shown the federal government will not adequately limit its own authority. Rather they will continue to expand control into every aspect of our lives if we don’t stop them.

“For those reasons ... I support it 100%.”
