CT Volunteers Push Forward as COS Achieves Historic Milestone

Published in Blog on February 12, 2022 by Jean Tom

Connecticut volunteers braved the icy cold weather last Saturday to finish our letter-writing campaign urging State representatives to support the Convention of States (COS) resolution which will be presented by the Government Administration and Elections Committee in March.

These hand-written notes are both a follow-up to Mark Meckler's recent phone call with CT legislators and an important part of the COS popular rise across the country.

Historic Halfway To The Convention

The COS movement has officially reached a historic milestone. For the first time in our nation's history, 17 of the requisite 34 states have called for a Convention of States to rein in federal power, impose fiscal restraints on Congress, and limit the terms of office for federal officials.

Educating both CT voters and legislators about the Convention of States is an uphill battle. We are still the only state that has not filed the application in committee.

However, CT-COS is making progress.

  • Signed petitions grew 66% over the past two years, reaching nearly 16,000 supporters.
  • Connecticut now has a sponsor and co-sponsors for the Convention of States resolution. This includes Representative Jason Perillo who has pledged to file the Convention of States resolution.
  • Our CT grassroots base continues to grow. Currently, we have doubled our volunteer growth since last year.

Growing Support As Concerns Soar

As an out-of-control Washington, D.C. continues to raise serious concerns about the economy, inflation, war, and our fundamental freedoms, more and more people are recognizing the need to reign in big government.

"Our primary goal is to educate our communities about how and why the Convention of States can help to bring power back to the States and to the average citizens as originally designed by our Founding Fathers," said COS State Director Maureen Zollo.

To do this more quickly, Zollo is asking for more volunteers. People can offer as much or as little of their time and effort as they can spare. Raising awareness can be as easy as forwarding an email to share information and signing the petition asking your State representatives to support the COS resolution.

A special shout-out of thanks goes to the COS team leaders who met in Naugatuck on Saturday for the letter-writing campaign. They include: MJ Guiffredo, Andrea Davila, Lisa Jolley, Marion Pierce, Bill Guiffredo, Mark Chisholm, Richard Legg, Jean Tom, Brenda Hamilton, and Julie van Elswyk.

We finished within two hours and, of course, had fun as well. We also sang Happy Birthday to both Mark and Richard.
