Aloha Patriots,
Hawai'i primary election is upon us.
The 2022 election is a once in a decade election, because all 76 state legislative seats are up for reelection due to reapportionment.
As you know, in 2019, Act 136 SLH 2019 enacted elections by mail uniformly statewide beginning with the 2020 Primary Election. Elections are the cornerstone of our Constitutional Republic.
While many COSHI supporters oppose "mail-in voting," unfortunately these are the cards we've been dealt. We highly encourage you to vote in person at your local voting service center instead of mailing in your ballot or placing them in a ballot drop box.
As we've done previously, COS National has issued a "COS Candidate Survey" to all 207 Hawai'i State House and Senate candidates. Click HERE, log in to your COSAction account, then choose your state – Hawai'i to see the responses we got. If you do not see the candidate you are looking for then they have not completed the Convention of States Candidate Survey. Please encourage them to do so today by emailing cossurveyed@cosaction.com for instructions on how to complete the survey.
We received 54 responses from candidates to date in all political parties on the ballot, Aloha Aina(2), Democrat(11), Green(1), Libertarian(2), Republican(37), and one Non-Partisan.
A complete list of candidates can be found on the State Office of Elections website HERE.
Remember, the primary election is often your only chance to replace incumbents who may not be standing as strong as you would like on the issues that matter most to you.
Because turnout in the primaries is less than in the general, your one vote carries greater weight. Fewer voters are needed to put a candidate over the top.
The primary election affords a greater chance of finding a candidate who truly aligns with your values, not merely a candidate who is less bad than another. Your vote can be tailored to a candidate who thinks more like you do.
To help you with your primary ballot, check out our COS Hawai'i Action Primary Election Guide and our COS Action Communications Guidelines for the 2022 Elections.
Always, if you have any questions don't hesitate to contact me.
Mahalo,

"Without the right to vote, there's no American experiment. Every time we vote, we're standing up side by side with our Founding Fathers, with patriots and pioneers throughout our history. Where the right to vote is the crown jewel of American liberties, and we will not see its luster diminished." President Ronald Reagan
