After swiftly moving through two North Carolina House committees this week, both the COS resolution calling for an Article V convention and 34|Ready faithful commissioner legislation will be debated and voted upon by the full House TODAY, May 7.
The House is expected to take up the measures at approximately 2:30 p.m ET. COS LIVE will be on air when the measures are addressed, and you can watch by clicking below:
Earlier this morning, the House Rules, Calendar, and Operations of the House Committee voted in favor of the COS resolution for an Article V convention and 34|Ready legislation by voice vote.
This follow's yesterday's victory in the House Judiciary 1 Committee.
Longtime COS legislative champion Rep. Dennis Riddell answered questions from members of the Rules Committee, primarily addressing concerns about restraints upon commissioners to an Article V convention.
Riddell pointed to the language of the COS resolution and the 34|Ready legislation to say that commissioners would be unable to deviate from their charge, which would be controlled wholly by the North Carolina legislature.
Rep. Riddell predicted that an Article V convention would be "the event of our lifetime" whereby the states could "enthusiastically interject" in the direction of our country without interference from Congress.
Once again, well-deserved kudos to the entire COS team in North Carolina, whose members have been dogged in their work to push their representatives to get to this point in the process.
