More than two-thirds (67%) of Iowa voters favor calling for a Convention of States to propose constitutional amendments that limit federal spending, limit federal power, and establish term limits for Congress and/or federal judges.
Republicans widely favor this approach (78%), as do Independents (68/20%). Even a majority of Democrats (53%) support this effort. The resolution to support an Article V convention for these specific purposes is currently pending before the Iowa Senate (HJR 12).
Convention of States Iowa State Director Sarah Haldeman Abdouch says, “Iowa voters want legislators to stand up against Washington and give the state a seat at the convention table. This legislation has the widest support of anything else this session and we expect legislators to follow the will of voters.
Abdouch continued, “This is about ‘Who Decides,’ not about Iowans working for an irresponsible and corrupt federal beast.”
"Iowa legislators can take back from Washington, the decision-making power that belongs to the states by voting 'YEA' on the Convention of States resolution,” she said
