Connecticut Rally Spotlights Citizen Support for Convention of States

Published in Blog on February 22, 2023 by Jean Tom

More than 100 people from Connecticut gathered at the state capitol in Hartford on Wednesday, February 15 to let legislators know they strongly support a Convention of States (COS). Two separate proposals, HJR23 and HJR24, calling for an Article V convention have been filed in the Connecticut legislature by Representatives Jason Perillo (R-113), Cindy Harrison (R-69), and Kathy Kennedy (R-119). These proposals are currently waiting for review by Connecticut’s Government Administrations and Elections Committee (GA&E).

State District Captain Lisa Jolly opened the Rally with a prayer calling for our state legislators to hear the voices gathered on this day and expressed words of faith for the future of freedom and liberty in America.

Grassroots Coordinator and District Captain Lisa Jolley opened the rally with a prayer calling for our state legislators to hear the voices of its citizens and expressed words of faith for the future of freedom and liberty in America.

Legislative Liason Jerry Cincotta spoke about the legislative process and the next steps. Immediately following the rally, supporters were invited to bring a packet of information to their state representatives. Each packet included information about Convention of States and our Resolution, as well as a list of petition signers within each district. Over 17,000 petitions have been signed by Connecticut citizens.

A highlight of the event was a pre-recorded message from renowned attorney Michael Farris, co-founder of the Convention of States Project. While Mr. Farris was scheduled to speak live at the rally, he was unexpectedly called away to address an important legislative hearing in Kansas. Regional Director Monica Sellers introduced our special guest speaker.  Massachusetts State Director Michael Arnold delivered advice and inspiration to the people of Connecticut. Last year Massachusetts became the first "blue state" to pass the Convention of States Resolution out of committee. This year, Michael and his team will continue to build upon that success with a letter-writing campaign to their state legislators.

The day concluded with volunteers delivering Convention of States information packets to their local state legislators – building relationships for a better future.

Call To Action:
It is imperative for all of our supporters to call and/or write to each of the 19 legislators in the GA&E Committee ASAP. Here is a link to the GA&E Committee Members.
