Citizens Alliance of Pennsylvania endorses Convention of States

Published in Blog on August 08, 2018 by Steven Thomas Polgar

Today the Convention of States Project announces the endorsement of Citizens Alliance of Pennsylvania (CAP), a non-profit organization founded to raise the standard of living of all Pennsylvanians by restoring limited government, economic freedom, and personal responsibility.

The Convention of States Project is a nationwide grassroots effort to activate an Article V Convention to propose constitutional amendments that would impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, and set term limits for federal officials.

Twelve state legislatures have already passed resolutions to convene such a meeting. A total of 34 state legislatures must do so before the convention may begin its work.

Leo Knepper, CAP’s Chief Executive Officer, said, "Before deciding to support an Article V Convention, CAP reviewed a significant amount of legal and historic research. Changes to one of our nation's foundational documents are a significant step, and not one to be undertaken lightly.

"The enabling legislation for a Convention of the States and the ratification of amendments contain enough safeguards to ensure our essential liberties are protected. Furthermore, this is the only recourse available to the people to wrest authority from a federal government unwilling to reform itself. We are excited to be a part of this effort, and will encourage our supporters and allies in the Pennsylvania General Assembly to advance this legislation."

“We are deeply grateful to CAP for endorsing the Convention of States Project,” said Mark Meckler, President and Co-Founder of Citizens for Self-Governance and Convention of States Action.  “Our organizations share the goal of fighting for government that is limited, accountable to the people, and compliant with its constitutional limitations.”

Both COS and CAP will be closely monitoring the Pennsylvania General Assembly’s actions relative to the Pennsylvania COS resolutions (SR 133 and HR 187).
