Can You Spot the Errors?

Published in Blog on February 22, 2019 by Warren Wheeler

In response to a COS supporter’s outreach, Virginia Delegate Eileen Filler-Corn (House District 41/Burke) makes some glaring errors. Can you spot them?

What do they tell us about this elected official’s understanding of our republican form of government?

Delegate Filler-Corn’s response is below (portions removed that were not germane):

Thank you for contacting me in support of HJ 685 and SJ 268.

During the current General Assembly Session, HJ 685 was introduced to make an application to the United States Congress to call a constitutional convention to propose amendments to the United States Constitution.  Furthermore, SJ 268 establishes the procedures through which the Virginia General Assembly may select and replace commissioners for interstate conventions. During the current General Assembly Session, neither HJ 685 nor SJ 268 was given a hearing in committee; therefore, I was unable to vote on either bill.

I believe a Convention of the States could take a variety of directions, and while the possibilities for a convention may be intriguing to some, there is much uncertainty in how the Convention would be governed. Though I do not agree with every action by the federal government, I respect the authority the Supreme Court has given to Congress and the President. I also have concerns that a Constitutional Convention may not be the best path to further changes in the United States.

All those who correctly identify the errors will be entered in a drawing for a prize. Send your entry to warren.wheeler@cosaction.com.
