The Centers for Disease Control announced this week that they've reversed their previous guidance on masking indoors. Now, in contradiction to their ruling just a few weeks ago, they say that even vaccinated people should mask up if they live in an area of "substantial or high transmission" (which, it turns out, is most of the country).
This is despite the fact that the vaccines have been shown to be highly effective at stopping serious disease even against new COVID-19 variants. Everyone who wants a vaccine has been able to get one, and those who haven't done so are making a conscious, personal decision about their health.
None of this makes any difference to our "betters" in the federal bureaucracy. Even worse, when the CDC says "jump," government agencies and private businesses say, "How high?"
The White House and Congress have already re-instituted their mask mandates, and observers believe that businesses and state and local governments will follow suit. Americans can expect to once again see "Mask Required for Entry" signs all over their towns and cities as our "leaders" scramble to acquiesce to the "experts" in Washington--no matter what the real science says.
The entire situation proves that even if federal bureaucrats don't have actual, official control, they still wield an inordinate amount of influence over our daily lives. The CDC can't send agents to your local Home Depot to make sure everyone is wearing a mask. But by issuing "guidance," federal agencies nonetheless dictate what private businesses and state and local governments do.
Sometimes, state governments and private institutions worry that federal dollars will dry up if they don't follow these suggestions. Other times, they're simply too cowardly to buck the mainstream big-government agenda even if they won't face any serious consequences. Either way, the American people bear the brunt of these directives from on high, and our freedom and personal liberties are damaged as a result.
It's time to put the federal government back in its place. The CDC shouldn't have such awesome power, and after we call and convene a Convention of States, they won't.
An Article V Convention of States is called and controlled by the states and has the power to limit the power, scope, and jurisdiction of the federal government--including federal bureaucracies. These amendments can get the feds out of healthcare, education, and energy by limiting Washington's jurisdiction to a narrow set of topics and effectively eliminate dozens of useless, overreaching federal agencies.
Amendments proposed at a Convention of States can go even further than that. By forcing Congress to balance the budget without raising taxes, a Convention of States can require the federal government to spend money on only those agencies that fall within the scope of the original Constitution. That means no more money for the Department of Education or the Environmental Protection Agency, two of many departments that appear nowhere in our founding document.
Best of all, these amendments can restore the balance of power between the federal and state governments and remind our national bureaucrats that they work for us--not the other way around. The faceless minions of the Deep State shouldn't control our lives or our healthcare decisions, and they certainly shouldn't issue "guidance" that contradicts the facts and restricts personal liberties.
