Spring is just around the corner, and the Convention of States Missouri team is expanding our outreach and connection with supporters just like you. These will be short memos directly from our State Director Brett Sterley. These will come out in weekly editions, and they will be accessible right here on this blog, every Monday morning!

Life in Lockdown

First and foremost, I hope this finds you safe and healthy. We must be thoughtful and take prudent actions to protect ourselves.

What a strange and unfamiliar place we find ourselves in. We have friends who traveled back from Florida and are in a 14-day self-quarantine. They needed a few things from the store but were unable to go themselves. I ventured out to buy the four items on their grocery list. After visiting three stores, my shopping trip was complete.

As I headed over to their house to make the delivery (on their porch), it really hit home how blessed we are to live in the United States. We’re accustomed to going to the store, selecting from the abundant choices on the shelves, and heading home. What has been largely routine for most of our lives is suddenly difficult to accomplish. I mean, who would have thought we’d have issues finding paper towels and toilet paper? That’s a news story from Venezuela, right?

We routinely discuss constitutional issues like freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and the Second Amendment. Our freedom of mobility is often taken for granted. Not anymore.

Government moves to accrue more power in normal times. In times of crisis, it tends to move at warp speed. We are currently witnessing that at the federal, state, and local levels. This is a perfect example of why liberty cannot exist without citizens practicing self-governance. We are experiencing why the convention of states process was included in the Constitution.

Even though the Missouri Assembly is in an extended Spring Break, the Convention of States Project’s work does not stop. It’s a good time to learn, review and refresh your knowledge of the Constitution and the importance of the convention of states process. I invite you to visit www.cosuniversity.com and take the free courses available there. This will deepen your understanding of our founding and ways to be involved in the constitutional solution that is as big as the problems.

In liberty,
Brett
