Brett's Blog: Monday, October 24, 2022 - Do You Know What Time It Is?

Published in Blog on October 22, 2022 by Brett Sterley, State Director, Convention of States Missouri

We are told inflation resulting from trillions of foolish spending is transitory.

We are told a border where an estimated two million people illegally cross each year is secure.

We are children who must be told when it is time for dinner can choose their sex.

We are told if you take out a loan and check a couple boxes you do not have to pay it back.

We are told that life isn’t life and is a choice.

Need I go on?

It is a world where up is down and down is up. It is no secret what the issues are. What do we do about them?

Before we get to that we need to understand how we got here. The basis of our system of governance relies on the self-governing citizen. It was a principle of the Mayflower Compact. It is at the core of our Constitution. We are the ones responsible for holding our elected representatives accountable for their actions. Our involvement in the political process is a primary check on government overreach. If we are not involved at a high level, the federal government will continue to grow until we push back.

This is why our aspirational goal (or transcendent goal if you have taken our Servant Leadership course) is to build a grassroots team of self-governing citizen activists who participate in the political process. This is the challenge issued by the original colonists, our Founding Fathers and the Framers of the Constitution.

What does that mean? If you were fortunate enough to have a civics class in school, you were likely told it is your obligation to vote. That is important for sure. However, doing your research of each candidate and issue is an “entry-level” requirement of being a self-governing citizen. God has given each of us unique talents and abilities. As a result, there are specific areas of society each individual is best suited for.  It is our obligation to find those opportunities and our duty to serve.

The midterm elections are two weeks away. The differences in the major world views of the political parties have never been greater. One way the Convention of States Project is involved is in election outreach. Every day through November 8th, we have TelePatriot missions where we will contact voters encouraging them to vote in the midterms. These missions will cover much of the country. Most missions will be contacting voters in get out the vote efforts. Based upon state and local election laws, some will involve direct advocacy for specific candidates.

Each mission contains a script that we communicate to each person we contact. These messages have been crafted for every mission based upon election law. They are fun and we have hundreds of volunteers across the country participating. If we do not get to the polls and vote our values then we really have no right to complain about the results. Getting others who share our own values multiplies this impact. This is the next step in self-governance.

If you are interested in becoming a TelePatriot volunteer, e-mail me at brett.sterley@cosaction.com. I will pair you up with someone on our team to provide the training and tools necessary to have a major impact. Time is of the essence. We have a country to save.

In liberty,

Brett
