We are two weeks out from the general election. Early voting in Missouri begins on Tuesday, October 22nd. Election Day is November 5th as I am sure you know. We are not only voting for a new President, we are voting for every statewide office, every state representative, one-third of the state Senate, our federal House of representatives and one-third of the federal Senate. There are also several initiative petition proposals to amend the Missouri Constitution that include: enshrining abortion, enabling sports gambling and others. Local issues specific to each municipality and judges will be elected as well.
We often hear the cliché, “This is the most important election of our lifetime.” We hear this so much that we dismiss it most of the time. It may actually be true this year.
There is no question that our economy is in worse shape over the past four years. Many state and local governments shut down our economy during the pandemic of 2020 and we have not recovered. Profligate spending and printing of currency has increased the overall price level by more than 22 percent over the last four years. The mortgage payment for an average priced home in the United States has increased over $1,000 per month. Interest rates have nearly tripled in four years. Interest payments on our $35+ trillion national debt is over $1 trillion annually.
Groups outside of Missouri are flooding our state with millions of dollars attempting to add provisions to our state constitution they cannot pass through the legislative process. This is how items like Bingo and medicinal marijuana use were added to Missouri’s Constitution. Most of the ballot measures we are voting on this year have no place in our state constitution. These are issues properly placed in state statute. Since citizens in a majority of state legislative districts do not support these issues, they move through the Initiative Petition process, largely funded by groups interested in a political agenda and with no vested interest in Missouri or our citizens.
There are a couple issues on the Missouri November 5th ballot that are more foundational to our republic. Amendment 3 seeks to codify abortion in our Missouri Constitution. Passage of this measure will nullify 47 laws passed by the Missouri Legislature, currently in the Missouri Revised Statutes. Amendment 7 has a provision that states “only” legal citizens of the State of Missouri and the United States are allowed to vote in elections. There is another part that bans the practice of “ranked-choice voting” in Missouri.
I call these foundational issues for a reason. The preamble of our US Constitution lists three of our Natural Rights, given to us by our Creator. Those rights are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Life is a prerequisite to all other Natural Rights. If you are not alive, our other Natural Rights do not matter. Additionally, integrity in our election process is critical to the survival of our republic. We have linked to the ballot language for all the ballot items below. You will find links to obtain a sample ballot for your residence as well. I encourage you to familiarize yourself with everything you are voting on. Pay particular attention to Amendments 3 and 7 and vote your values.
Regardless of the outcome of this election, our country’s problems are not going to be solved. Solutions to restore our Constitution and thus, our republic will not come from the government.. If our country is to be saved and be a beacon of light for the World, it is up to We The People.
Please make sure you vote your values in this election. Study the candidates and the issues to ensure you cast an informed vote. I challenge you to do at least one thing every day to advance the cause of liberty. Convention of States Action is a platform to help us save our republic. Our team would love to work with you and help you do what you can to support and defend our constitutional republic. Go to www.conventionofstates.com for more information.
In liberty,
Brett
