Brett's Blog: Monday, February 6, 2023 - Ask Not What Your Country Can Do for You, Part Five – The State Information Analyst

Published in Uncategorized on February 05, 2023 by Brett Sterley, State Director, Convention of States Missouri

We live in an age of astounding technology. There is greater processing power in our smartphones than the entire systems platform that delivered the Apollo 11 astronauts to the moon. Just a few years ago, our NASA space shuttles were controlled by a series of gauges, switches, buttons and dials. And today, Elon Musk’s SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule is mostly operated through three touch-screen monitors.

The speed at which technology is advancing is breathtaking. Even the Convention of States (COS) relies on technology to accomplish our mission. Granted, we’re not launching people or equipment into space; but technology is a key ingredient to our success. Working together in person whenever possible is important, and we do a large amount of work virtually. But the fact that we’re a national organization and collaborate with each other several times a week makes it impossible to conduct all of our business in person. In short, maintaining the COS technology platforms is critical to our success.

Making sure our volunteers can efficiently use our technological platforms is a key responsibility of the State information Analyst (SIA). The SIA is an integral member of our team. Not everyone (myself included) is a computer expert. So, the SIA is there to help make ‘the complex’ as simple and easy for our team to use as possible.

Some of the responsibilities of the SIA are:

  • Learning the ins and outs of our various web tools and websites
  • Providing occasional GoToMeeting/Free Conference Call/Zoom training sessions for the state team on our tech tools
  • Assist State Leaders and District Captains in the effective use of technology for the cause of liberty
  • Help State Leaders and District Captains ensure state databases remain clean and updated
  • Work with the Communications Team to execute Get Out the Vote, TelePatriot and other marketing programs
  • Track growth statistics

A successful SIA must be comfortable using computers and smartphones. Having a background in information technology, database architecture or IT support are pluses but not requirements. Additionally, the State Information Analyst should:

  • Be a team player with good communications skills
  • Be comfortable using several software packages, including spreadsheets and smartphone applications
  • Analyze obstacles and data to help develop solutions to problems

If this sounds like you, click here to volunteer to be an SIA. We’ll be in touch and connect you with other technical support volunteers. You’ll need support as well, and we’ll do all we can to help you. So, if you have a background in, or are a whiz in today’s technology, it’s time to pitch in and save our republic!

In liberty,

Brett
