Brett's Blog: Monday, February 27, 2023 - Ask Not What Your Country Can Do for You, Part Eight – The Rest of Our Volunteer Roles

Published in Blog on February 26, 2023 by Brett Sterley, State Director, Convention of States Missouri

Most of us are frustrated by the current condition of our country. It’s why we support the Convention of States Project. In fact, some of you have chosen to go a step further by becoming active volunteers on our Missouri Team. For the past seven weeks I’ve provided information on numerous leadership roles that offer ways to be involved. In this week’s blog I'll cover the rest of our volunteer roles -- just in case you haven’t seen a role that interests you or fits into your schedule.

The following roles generally require a lesser time commitment than the ones I’ve covered previously. Yet, they’re still meaningful and impactful roles that contribute to the success of our mission. Please consider one of these roles in case you’ve not volunteered already. I look forward to having you on our team and fighting to restore the Constitution and protect our republic. All of these roles can be found on the COS Take Action Page.

State Videographer

As a state videographer, you’ll work with our state and national teams. You’ll focus on gathering video coverage of the various events in which our state team participates – from state fairs and festivals, to COS meetings, Capitol Surge Day and other COS related activities. You might even find innovative ways to promote COS through visual media.

This position requires someone with the technical knowledge and equipment needed to record professional video. The ability to travel within the state, work independently and meet deadlines is a must. The expected time commitment here varies, and depends on our state team’s event schedule.

Events Coordinator

The events coordinator is an engaging and rewarding position. Events coordinators assist the state team plan and execute successful events throughout Missouri. Events can range from fairs and festivals, to COS meetings, speeches, headliner appearances, regional conferences, grassroots outreach and even special events at the State Capitol.

A successful events coordinator can handle multiple projects covering a variety of events, must work well in a team environment, develop a project timeline, meet deadlines and help coordinate staffing for the event. The time commitment varies according to the number of events our team participates in.

Follow-Up Team Member

The follow-up team member welcomes new supporters to the Convention of States Project. In fact, this volunteer often is the ‘Voice of the State Team’ – making the first personal contact with a new COS supporter. As the saying goes, “You never get a second chance to make a first impression,” and this is true. But while this is a primary function of the District Captain, a follow-up team member will assist where we don’t have District Captain coverage. This volunteer also can provide support and training for District Captains and other volunteers.

Requirements for this role are a conversational grasp of the Article V process, professional phone etiquette, basic computer skills and the ability to follow up with new supporters in a timely manner.

Social Media Warrior

Social media is ubiquitous in modern society. Social media provides an inexpensive platform to gain access to large numbers of current and potential supporters. This role involves sharing COS content on social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Rumble and other online publications. You’ll have the ability to participate in Calls to Action and weekly Social Media Warrior Facebook Live events.

A successful social media warrior has a presence on one or more social media platforms and shares COS content regularly. The time commitment for this role ranges from a few minutes a day to as much time as you choose.

Prayer Warrior Team

The Framers of the Constitution and the Founding Fathers of our country didn’t accomplish this on their own. Divine Intervention was a key ingredient. We fervently acknowledge we will not accomplish our mission without the guiding hand of God. This is true for our elected officials as well. The Prayer Warrior Team is multi-denominational. We pray for needs within our team to provide us with courage, guidance and protection.

In Missouri, we also have a Capitol Prayer Team that prays for our legislators. Each week we select ten offices to pray for. The Capitol Prayer Team point person for that week will contact those offices and ask if they have any prayer requests for that week. This information is then communicated to the Prayer Warrior Team in a designated workspace. The time spent is two to five hours the week you’re the point person and the prayer time you select.

State Content Writer

Communicating information is critical to our success. It affects every aspect of our operations. It’s imperative we keep our content fresh and up-to-date. It can be through blog posts, digital media, publication letters to the editor and marketing materials.

A successful state content writer will have a strong command of the English language and be able to communicate concepts and news effectively. A background in communications or journalism is preferred but not required. The time commitment typically is a couple hours a week.

Volunteer Activist

This is a new COS role. It’s for the person who says, “I want to help do something, but I'm not sure where I’m needed.” Just from answering the brief questionnaire in our application, we can suggest roles that fit your skill set, background, available time and our team’s needs.

Volunteering is a two-way street. It’s important we determine if your goals align with COS goals. We then can help you find roles that provide an enriching volunteer experience. But if you volunteer for a role that ends up not being what you thought it would be, or if your life circumstances change, let a team member know and we'll find a better fit.

Thank you for considering becoming a COS volunteer. We’re all here because we want to save our republic. The Convention of States Project provides the best option to implement meaningful change in a peaceful, constitutional manner. I look forward to meeting and working with you in the near future!

In liberty,

Brett
