Brett's Blog: Monday, February 12, 2024: Convention of States Missouri Goes to the Capitol

Published in Blog on February 11, 2024 by Brett Sterley, State Director, Convention of States Missouri

“I enjoyed the fellowship. Good people. Good cause.”

“Very enjoyable.”

“I feel I fit in with the group. Look forward to working with you.”

“Glad I went. Always educational.”

“Surge Day is always a good event.”

These are just a few comments from our volunteers who participated in this year’s Convention of States Action Missouri Surge Day at the Capitol. The purpose of this event is to interact with our legislators, speak with other grassroots organizations and educate everyone we can about The Framers’ solution to unconstitutional governance.

And that we did!

We were set up on the 3rd Floor Rotunda of our beautiful Capitol building. If you have never been to the Capitol, I highly recommend it. We spoke to dozens of individuals from groups like a university student government, a nursing organization, high school students who won a history competition and a Program Director who teaches inner-city youth about history (actual history).

That in itself would have been a successful day. Our mighty team distributed information to all 196 legislators. That is all 162 House Members and 34 Senators. (There are 163 House Districts but  there is 1 current vacancy) This Surge packet contained a handy bookmark that will be put to use. The bookmark contained information about Convention of States Action, a QR code to an article specifically for the Missouri Legislature and a QR code to the Convention of States Foundation’s Article V Simulation held last August in Colonial Williamsburg, VA.

Missouri is a passed state. Why are we still doing these events? I am glad you asked!

The prime directive of Convention of States Action is to teach our fellow Americans how to be self-governing citizens. That is a continuous task and one we are called to perform. One aspect of this is for each person to know their Representative and Senator. A self-governing citizen should be able to have a conversation with their elected office holders not only about Article V but also about other issues of concern.

Missouri is a term-limited state. One-third of the legislature turns over every election cycle. That means about 60 new legislators will be sworn in next January. Candidate filing opens on February 27th. Dozens of our fellow Missourians will line up for the opportunity to earn your vote and represent you at all levels of state government. Wouldn’t you like to know who these individuals are and if they share a constitutional mindset? Wouldn’t you like to know if they understand Article V and the convention of states process?

If your answer to those questions is “Yes” and if you want to be part of The Framers’ constitutional solution that is as big as our problems, go to www.conventionofstates.com/take_action. We have resources from the most brilliant Constitutional scholars and of course, The Framers themselves. Each of us needs to understand our Constitutional rights and when they are being violated and what we can do about it. We have a republic to save. Let’s get to it.

In liberty,

Brett
