Fighting the Weeds of Tyranny

“I believe that we can cheat history.” – Senator Tom Coburn

One of the things I’ve always strived for is a nice, lush lawn. We have many homes in my neighborhood with exactly that. I drive by these homes with envy. Don't even think about seeing a dandelion. The lawns are rich green in color without any weeds to be found. I can imagine laying down for a relaxing nap on this bed of turf, where the grass softly carpets the ground.

Then, I arrive at my home. I haven't had as much time as I’d like to devote to yard maintenance  the past few years. My yard is not a disaster, but there is a noticeable difference in its health and appearance. There are parts of my yard almost exactly as I want them, but uneven. There are thin areas where the ground below is more noticeable than the grass above. There's a section where the weeds outnumber the blades of grass. Yes, there are a few dandelions. It’s frustrating. I’ve joked about tilling everything under or setting my yard on fire.

This year, I resolved to correct this deficiency on my homestead. I was determined. So, where would I start?

First, I needed to research the keys to growing a proper lawn; how the soil needs to be prepared; the type of grass that’s appropriate for this area (especially with the mix of sun and shade in my yard). Then came the technical stuff. I needed to know the proper time to over-seed, how often I should water, how soon to apply fertilizer to new growth, and what type of fertilizer to use to maintain a healthy lawn in the future.

Fortunately, there were resources available to answer these many questions. After having the answers, it was up to me to act. My years of complacency had shown me that weeds grow in the absence of effort. Do nothing and they take over your lawn. If you want the things you actually desire to grow, it takes commitment. It takes knowledge, effort, commitment and dedication.

Preserving liberty is no different. If we do nothing, the weeds of tyranny grow. If we want to live under the lush blanket of liberty, we must educate ourselves on what’s required to make that possible. We must understand the foundation and underlying principles that allow liberty to flourish. We have to commit to doing the work necessary to preserve liberty for the future.

We have the formula to defend and preserve liberty in our Constitution and Founding Documents. Now it’s entirely up to us to do the work necessary to help our republic thrive.

This is our mission at the Convention of States Project. Complaining and being frustrated will not help reverse course. Only We The People committing to our founding principles and acting as self-governing citizens can restore our birthright. Join our mission by visiting Convention of States Take Action. In liberty,

Brett
