Inflation is on the rise, and there's no sign of slowing down.
Ever since President Joe Biden took office, liberty-loving Americans have warned that his irresponsible spending was going to drive up inflation, and his irresponsible employment policies would keep people from finding work.
Both of those predictions have come true in recent months as inflation climbs to over 5% annually and the job market stalls and falters. The prices of many good and services has skyrocketed, and employers around the country can't find workers to fill roles. Unemployment claims actually rose in June even though most states and cities were fully open.
The cause of these economic struggles is clear to grassroots America: Joe Biden. According to a June poll from Convention of States Action and the Trafalgar group, 65% of Americans blame the federal government for rising inflation, 40% of which blame Joe Biden directly.
Now, finally, Biden's officials are beginning to admit that we have a problem, though they're not admitting that it's their fault. Jerome Powell, chairman of the Federal Reserve, said during a press conference this week that inflation is "higher and more persistent than we expected" and added that "generous unemployment benefits" are one of the reasons Americans aren't getting back to work.
You think?
When you use taxpayer money to pay people not to work, they'll stay at home.
When you dump trillions of taxpayer dollars into an already-recovering economy, the price of goods and services will rise.
And when you use our hard-earned dollars to destroy what was our country's greatest economy, there will be consequences.
The greatest of those consequences is an Article V Convention of States. A Convention of States is called and controlled by the states (not Congress or President Biden) and has the power to propose constitutional amendments. These amendments can force the federal government to be fiscally responsible in several ways.
An amendment can be proposed, for example, requiring a balanced budget while also prohibiting the feds from raising taxes. This combination of policies will force Congress to cut wasteful spending rather than just making up the deficit with higher taxes.
Other amendments can simply prohibit the federal government from spending money on anything outside of their proper constitutional jurisdiction. Congress justifies its irresponsible spending using bad constitutional interpretations that give Washington power over just about everything in our country. With amendments limiting that jurisdiction, Washington would be forced to spend (and waste) far less money than they do now.
Whenever the federal government meddles in the economy, everyday Americans suffer. That's been true over the last few months, and it will always be true so long as Washington has the power to spend irresponsibly. It's time to strip them of that power, and we can do it with an Article V Convention of States.
