Arkansas and Utah got it done, but what about Virginia?

Published in Blog on March 08, 2019 by Laurie Wheeler

The following is from State Director, Chris Walker.

The 2019 Session of the Virginia General Assembly has come to a close. Our resolutions HJ 685 and SJ 268 enjoyed many sponsors, but our cause got lost in the noise.

The nation had its attention on Virginia this year and not because of our outstanding leadership.

While that debacle was going on in Virginia, Arkansas became the 13th state to pass the Convention of States resolution, quickly followed by Utah which became the 14th state!

But what about Virginia?

The legislators who sit on the Virginia General Assembly in Richmond (all 100 delegates and 40 senators) will be up for election in November 2019.

Now is the time to educate your legislators and the candidates who will be running against them about their unique role in calling a Convention of States to rein in the federal leviathan.

You may be aware that Ben Shapiro has been actively promoting Convention of States on his radio show. As a result there has been a huge increase in the petition signers coming into our database.

However, our all volunteer leadership is getting swamped!

Our Convention of States Virginia Action Team tries to call or text or email every new supporter within a couple of days to welcome them and ask that they take action.

Would you give us a hand? We need 200 new District Captains who will help us welcome new supporters and organize their districts to build the most effective grassroots organization in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Success in Virginia requires the same grassroots support that enabled the recent victories in Arkansas and Utah. Our team of volunteers invite you to join them.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:

Thank you so much for your service to the people of our district.
