All in a day’s work

Published in Blog on May 05, 2025 by Jakob Fay

It’s been another wild day at the Texas Capitol — but the grassroots team has once again given liberty-loving patriots everywhere a reason to celebrate.

When it comes to the legislature in Austin, unpredictability is often the only constant. Fortunately, our team on the ground is ready for anything.

Today may not have gone exactly according to plan, but the grassroots pushed through and were rewarded with a crucial victory. The Texas Senate State Affairs Committee reviewed and passed House Joint Resolution (HJR) 98 — the COS resolution with no expiration date — exactly one week after the House of Representatives adopted the measure. After clearing those two major hurdles, HJR 98 is one step closer to final passage, reaffirming the Lone Star State’s long-standing support for the COS cause.

Earlier this morning, Senior Vice President for Legislative Affairs Rita Peters and Regional Director Jonathan Viaud brought viewers up to speed on what to expect from the legislature. As ever, the situation was tedious and complex, but the grassroots navigated it expertly.

Watch:

Despite canceling the public hearing on HJR 98, the committee still voted on the bill later Monday afternoon. Afterward, the team was photographed with supportive legislators, including Senators Bryan Hughes and Brian Birdwell and Representatives Cody Vasut and Cole Hefner.

“I do what I do because I have children and grandchildren, and I want to leave them a better place,” one volunteer explained when asked why she volunteers with Convention of States. Another noted that he wants future generations to “grow up in the free country that I enjoyed as a child.”

Finally, the team closed by singing “How Great Thou Art” in the Capitol Rotunda.

All in a day’s work for the incredible Texas team, members of which have donated countless thousands of hours and dollars to preserve and protect the Constitution of the United States! We truly are blessed to have such unparalleled patriot-activists in our movement. Regardless of what state you’re from, you can join them today by signing the COS petition below! Additionally, follow the Convention of States blog for future updates regarding HJR 98 and the COS cause in Texas.
