In 44 hours, three mass shootings were committed across California this past week. Tragically, 19 lives were lost and many more marred by these violent crimes.
“The Second Amendment is becoming a suicide pact,” proclaimed Gov. Gavin Newsom, despot of California, adding to his laundry list of constitutionally-corrosive claims.
Every loss of human life is worth mourning, perhaps most especially when it is taken savagely and needlessly. While our response to such depravity and pain should be grief and prayer, the unfortunate custom of America has developed instead toward emotionally frenzied policy demands.
Rather than turning to God, we turn on one another.
Since a race narrative was out of the question with two of the identified gunmen being elderly Asian men, it didn’t take long to circle back to gun control.
This is, of course, ridiculous in a state with some of the strictest gun laws in the country.
Though Newsom justified his atrocious renouncement of our Constitution by clarifying that he had no “ideological opposition” to responsible, trained gun ownership, his call to action shone a light on his true intentions.
“We did another half-dozen gun safety bills last year, we’ll continue to find whatever loopholes we can, we’ll continue to lead the national conversation on gun safety reform.”
Perhaps it is time to take a step back and side with Democratic State Senator Josh Becker who asked, “What more can we do?”
Becker continued, “We pride ourselves in California as having some of the toughest gun laws in the country. But I got to tell you those don’t matter a bit when there are seven people dead in your own community, when there’s … 11 people dead in Monterey Park. It doesn’t matter one bit.”
The question of evil cannot be solved with more government laws or money. Stripping citizens of civil rights guaranteed to them by the Constitution is the way of tyrants, not heroes.
Some commentators have suggested Newsom’s strong stance on gun control, such as blaming gun rights advocates for “perpetuating lunacy,” is intended to gear toward a 2024 presidential election bid.
If you think out-of-line governors or prospective presidential candidates who have a deep distaste for your freedom should not have a say in your Second Amendment right to bear arms, then consider joining our fight to call a Convention of States.
